Why Saliva Hormone Testing
Saliva hormone test is an accurate and inexpensive way to test unbound “free” hormones. Free hormones are the “active” form of hormones vs. bound or “inactive” hormones which do not perform any action in the body.
Standard blood tests only test the inactive bound hormones. In saliva hormone testing, the saliva gland only releases the active form of the hormone, making it a better test for assessing hormone function and optimal hormone health.
Bioidentical Hormone Replacement (BHRT) vs. Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT)
Women in menopause who are taking any form of hormone replacement therapy should have their hormone levels checked regularly. Bioidentical hormones are derived mainly from soybeans and/or yams and closely resemble our own hormones. Synthetic, pharmaceutical-based hormones are derived from horse urine, are ultra-concentrated, and are chemically different than our own hormones.
Either form of hormone replacement therapy can cause hormone overload. Menopause testing is crucial to ensure proper hormone ratios and dosages. Since hormone overload has the same symptoms as hormone deficiency, many women become overloaded with hormones that can dramatically affect well-being.
