Autoimmune and insulin-related testing

Type 1 diabetes happens when your immune system attacks the cells in your pancreas that make insulin. These tests check for the antibodies linked to type 1 diabetes and measure C-peptide, which shows how much insulin your body still makes. Some also look more broadly at your immune system or include vitamin D. All use a blood sample.

What type 1 diabetes tests can check for

  • Antibodies like GAD65, islet cell, and insulin antibodies
  • C-peptide, a sign of your own insulin production
  • Immune cell levels and balance
  • Vitamin D levels
