- Fasting is not required for this test. However, before collecting the samples, you need to do as follows:

- Wait 14 days after a colonoscopy to test
- Wait 14-30 days after the use of antibiotics or herbal antimicrobials
- Wait 2-3 days after the use of either: a rectal suppository OR use rectal suppositories
- Wait 2 days after use of aspirin or anti-inflammatory medication (NSAIDS)
- Wait 5-14 days after use of proton pump inhibitor medication
- Wait 2-3 days after use of an over-the-counter antacid
- Wait 2-3 days after the use of bentonite clay, betaine HCL, or digestive enzymes
