This test is run to confirm an autoimmune attack on the phospholipid cardiolipin. This autoimmune attack is seen in the condition Antiphospholipid Syndrome, a condition in which one develops a high risk of blood clots. Since Antiphopholipid Syndrome is closely related to Lupus, one should also test Antinuclear Antibodies (ANA).
