Breast Cancer Prevention Test (2/16 OH Ratio) from Genova Diagnostics
There is a close connection between breast cancer risk and the levels of estrogen byproducts. “Bad” estrogens (16 alpha-hydroxyestrone) and “good” estrogens (2-hydroxyestrone) are estrogen byproducts that are found in the urine and can contribute to the risk of breast cancer.
Estrogen Dominance in Men and Women
Both men and women can be estrogen dominant. Most men become estrogen dominant as they develop higher levels of insulin as seen in prediabetes and diabetes. Women tend to become estrogen dominant due to birth control pills, estrogen replacement therapy, and/or other environmental exposures.
If this is your case and your body breaks more estrogen down into the “bad” form, then you may be at increased risk for the development or progression of breast cancer. This test can shows the “good” vs. “bad” ratio along with other estrogen byproducts.
Some of the estrogen byproducts that are tested for in this panel also contributes to male prostate cancer (mainly the 4-hydroxyestrone) and other prostate conditions such as benign prostatic hyperplasia, or BPH. This test is recommend for any male with prostate concerns.
