Lyme Disease Testing
Lyme Disease Symptoms
Lyme Disease is transmitted through tick bites. The most Lyme disease causing ticks are in their nymphal stage (newly born stage), therefore very few people notice the tick or the tick bite. This does not mean that larger, older ticks can’t also transmit the Lyme disease causing bacteria Borrelia burgdorferi.
Acute Lyme Disease Symptoms:
- Rash with a “bulls-eye” appearance around the bite
- Flu-like symptoms- headache, muscle soreness, fatigue, fever
Chronic Lyme Disease Symptoms
Because symptoms of chronic Lyme disease can mimic many other disease symptoms, it may be hard to pin-point Lyme disease as the cause of your symptoms. Lyme disease testing is the only way to confirm. Some symptoms and complications of chronic Lyme disease are:
- Memory loss
- Depression
- Anxiety
- Fibromyaligia (widespread pain with unknown cause)
- Bipolar Disorder
- Arthritis
- Autoimmunity
Confirming Lyme Disease
If this test returns with elevated antibodies to Borrelia burgdorferi, it is important to confirm that elevation with the Lyme Western Blot test.
What’s Being Tested:
- Lyme Disease Antibodies- Total and IgM
Fasting: No
Specimen Type: Blood Test (Draw Location | How It Works | FAQs) ;
