What is the PLAC� Test?
The PLAC test is a blood test that looks the levels of Lp-PLA2 (Lipoprotein-associated Phospholipase A2). Lp-PLA2 is released into the blood from arterial plaques. Increased levels of Lp-PLA2 increase your risk of having a heart attack or stroke.
How is the PLAC Test Different?
Plaques form in arteries when they are inflamed. As plaques form, they will release Lp-PLA2. If the amount of Lp-PLA2 is elevated, this may mean that the plaque is more likely to rupture , releasing it into the bloodstream where it may cause a clot that could result in a heart attack or stroke.
